Maastricht celebrates carnival
Alaaf! Who doesn’t love to celebrate carnival in the Netherlands? Next week it is time to celebrate this famous event. People in Maastricht come together to celebrate carnival.
Since the 11th of November (11/11), people in the city are searching for unique costumes (called “Pekskes”), make-up and various materials to decorate the large carnival parade.
The city of Maastricht will be completely dressed in the famous carnival colors: red, yellow and green. The majority of stores are closed during these days.
A nice appearance, is the face of Carnival: “De Mooswief” (right on the pictures). This is part of the carnival tradition in Maastricht. This puppet is partly handmade with fabric. You can also exclusively buy it at the Maastricht Visitor Center.
By the way, make sure you don’t forget to book your room. We also have a free shuttle service who will bring you to the centre of Maastricht.
